Prevention is always our number 1 priority. However, we do know that sometimes things out of the ordinary can happen, that’s why we need to be prepared! At MineBase, we carry a large range of fire extinguishers and components. We also offer a testing and tagging service to ensure that your last line of defence is in tip-top condition.

The standard dry powder extinguishers are also known as ABC extinguishers as these can be used for class A, class B and class C fires. However, these should not be used in enclosed spaces as the dry powder in the extinguisher can be easily inhaled. Also, it’s not easy to clean up the leftover residue once the fire is over. These can also be used for fires involving electrical equipment. There are also special dry powder extinguishers that are typically used for fires caused by flammable metals.

This type of fire extinguisher may be used for fires caused by various organic materials including wood, coal, textiles, fabrics, cardboard and paper among others. It may also be used for fires caused by flammable liquids including petrol and paint as well as flammable gases including acetylene and liquid petroleum gas.

  • A safe non-toxic and non-conductive extinguishing agent
  • ABE can be used on fires involving wood, paper, flammable liquid and live electrical equipment
  • Fire extinguisher is easy to operate and can be lifted and carried quickly by most adults to the fire site
  • Suitable for electrical switch rooms, vehicles, boats, garages and warehouses
  • Certified to AS/NZS 1841.5

Location – Dry Powder Extinguishers

Garage forecourts, welding and flame-cutting businesses and buildings with large boiler rooms are examples of premises using flammable gases for chemical processes where this type of fire extinguisher is required.

Did you know that your fire extinguishers eventually expire?

If you think that you have had your office, machine or home extinguisher for over 7 years, there’s a good chance that it has expired. Fire extinguishers need to have an external maintenance examination conducted every year.

They also need to have an internal examination conducted at anywhere from 1-6 year intervals depending on the type of extinguisher. For example, a dry chemical, stored pressure fire extinguisher must have an internal examination every 6 years. Some environments may require more frequent testing.

Every fire extinguisher we provide comes with a metal tag to record maintenance. Maintenance should be performed by a fire safety specialist. We can offer a testing and tagging service to ensure that your last line of defence is in tip-top condition.
